As all residents will know, the problem of parking at Ellingham Primary School has caused disruption within the village for a number of years, and the parish council has met with the school and other local agencies several times over the years to try to resolve the issue.  The school, and now the nearby playground, is very successful and is at full capacity, drawing families not just from the village but from the surrounding area, increasing the traffic in an area where there is very limited possibility for off-street parking.

Finally, in 2018 the parish council decided that a car park to serve the school and the play area across the road, which was at the time undergoing a significant refurbishment, would be the only way forward.  Several sites near the school were considered, and after careful deliberation, the parish council approached Ellingham United Charities to see if it would be possible to rent a piece of land on the corner of Mill Road and School Road for this purpose.  This site was chosen as it was adjacent to both the school and the playground, which, even then, was growing in popularity.

A car park committee comprising parish councillors, representatives of the charity and the school and concerned residents was formed and a planning consultant engaged in 2019.  A planning application was submitted and permission granted in 2020, and the parish council continues to work hard to bring this project to a successful conclusion for the benefit of all those in the community, and specifically for the safety and welfare of the families that use the school and playground.

What this space for further developments!
