July 2021:
South Norfolk planning consultation
South Norfolk Council (SNC) is currently consulting on possible future development in its area, centred around 48 communities that have primary schools, which it has called the Village Clusters Housing Allocations Plan, or VCHAP.
The preferred allocation sites are between 12 and 50 dwellings, reflecting the scale of the settlements which they will form a part of, and other aspects of the VCHAP. SNC is now seeking your views on this plan, including what specific criteria might need to be applied to the larger allocation sites. The consultation lasts until 2nd August 2021 and anyone can respond to the online consultation by visiting www.south-norfolk.gov.uk/vchap. Further details about the three sites that have been accepted as part of the plan are shown below, and the Kirby Cane & Ellingham Parish Council planning committee is also meeting to discuss this subject on Tuesday, 20th July at 7pm in Kirby Cane Memorial Hall. Social distancing will be strictly applied and therefore access to the hall will be limited. If you would like any information about this meeting, please call the parish clerk, Jane Love, on 01508 518375.

Decision by Information Commissioner
In 2017 a complaint was made to the Information Commissioner (ICO) by a resident, and the council recently received the result of the ICO's deliberations, a redacted copy of which can be found here. This is the culmination of a period of several years during which the council has had to deal with a large volume of work generated by the complainant, as documented in the ICO's decision notice.
A further appeal to this decision on the part of the complainant was also dismissed, and this decision can be found here

Grand opening of updated play area
20th August 2017

It was with great pleasure that the Parish Council celebrated the addition of new play equipment at Ellingham Playing Field on Sunday, 20th August 2017. In spite of some clashes with other local events, there was an excellent turn-out and it was wonderful to see not just children playing on the zip-wire, skate park and other equipment, but local residents of all ages enjoying a thoroughly good afternoon out. The Playground Committee of the parish council has raised nearly £60,000 for this project, and is so pleased to see families enjoying themselves as a result.
Special thanks go to Robert Earl, who loaned a stage, from which we were entertained by two excellent local singing acts, and also brought along his hot-food stand. The local brewery did a roaring trade, while the Kirby Cane Memorial Hall committee provided light refreshments and some wonderful cakes and scones. There were also games to play and the new Ellingham village sign was also on display. Many thanks to all those who attended.
